AP Chemistry
Unit 1: Chemical Foundations & Stoichiometry
Monday, 9/5 - Labor Day - No School
Tuesday, 9/6 - Intro, STEM Fair, Class website, Syllabus, Materials, AP Test Overview, Safety.
CLICK THIS for the link to the College Board website.
Wednesday, 9/7 - Inquiry Lab 1: Find the thickness of zinc coating on galvanized metal. Write up includes: Title, Purpose & Hypothesis, Materials, Procedure, Data (have 3 sets), and Conclusion.
Also, 1) Watch the YouTube video by Veritasium, “World’s Roundest Object”. Write a paragraph response, include questions you have.
2) Watch the “Powers of 10” infographic by FSU (it starts right away). What do the measurements mean to you? What is the significance of each order of magnitude?
Thursday, 9/8 - Lab and Video Discussion. Chemical Foundations. Begin Inquiry Activity #2: Design an experiment to collect data that supports the claim that 1.0 M NaCl solution is a homogenous mixture. Describe the steps, the data you would collect, and how the data support the claim. Read section 1.5 in the textbook.
Friday, 9/9 - Discuss Inquiry Activity #2. Naming, formula writing, and molar mass charts. Read 1.8-1.9. Make flash cards of your ions. There will be an unannounced quiz sometime next week.
Monday, 9/12 - Review diagnostic problems and concepts. Perform Friday's experiment using procedure you turned in. HW: Read 3.6-3.7.
Tuesday, 9/13 - Rules Meeting (Freshmen/Juniors) - 43 minute periods. MEET IN ROOM 143.
Data Analysis. Percent Composition and Empirical/Molecular Formulas. HW: Finish ChemActivty 31: Empirical Formulas sheet.
Wednesday, 9/14 - Rules Meeting (Sophomores/Seniors) - 43 minute periods. Ion Quiz! Empirical Formula by Combustion Analysis. HW: Do problems pg. 122 #87-90 (if you do not finish, do not worry, as you will have time tomorrow to work on it.)
Thursday, 9/15 - Percent composition of hydrates and oxides. Balancing practice.
Friday, 9/16 - Stoich Quiz! Then, begin Stoich Lab. Chapter 3 Exam: Thursday, 9/22.
Monday, 9/19 - Mole Ratio Lab. Due Friday.
Tuesday, 9/20 - Mole Road Map Review. Stoichiometry Practice. HW: Begin creating a review guide based on the AP College Board Learning Objectives: HERE.
Wednesday, 9/21 - Chapter 3 Review, as above.
